Chattanooga beats Samford 31-21

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Jacob Huesman threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Chattanooga to a 31-21 win over Samford in Southern Conference play on Saturday.

Huesman finished with 181 yards passing and 150 yards rushing for the Mocs (2-1, 1-0).

Huesman connected with Xavier Borishade for a 28-yard touchdown to make it 7-7 after Samford scored on its first possession.

With the Mocs trailing 14-7 early in the second quarter, Huesman ran for an 11-yard touchdown to tie it then connected with C.J. Board for a 43-yard scoring play to give Chattanooga a 21-14 lead with 6:06 left in the half. Ribeiro hit a 45-yard field goal just before the break and the Mocs led 24-14.

A recovered Samford fumble in the third quarter led to an Alejandro Bennifield rushing touchdown to seal the win for Chattanooga.

Michael Eubank threw for 255 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs (2-1, 0-1).
