Charleston Southern ground game overpowers Kentucky St 57-7

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) Alan Barnwell rushed for 108 yards on four carries and had a touchdown, Mike Holloway added two rushing touchdowns and Charleston Southern routed Division II-member Kentucky State 57-7 on Saturday.

Charleston Southern amassed 527 yards in total offense-405 on the ground- and scored six rushing touchdowns.

The Buccaneers (1-1) were coming off a season-opening overtime loss on the road at North Dakota State last weekend. Charleston Southern has now won eight straight home games dating back to November 2014.

Holloway started the scoring when his 10-yard run finished a 3-play, 77-yard drive with 11:51 to play in the first quarter. Ben Robinson ran for score five minutes later before Holloway added another, followed by a two-point conversion, for 22-0 lead.

Barnwell ran for a 70-yard TD to make it 29-0 to start the second quarter.

The Thorobreds (0-1) got a 42-yard touchdown run from Reginal Harris just before halftime.
