Charleston Southern beats Shorter 23-15
Malcolm Dixon passed for 123 yards, including two first half touchdowns, and ran for another 102 yards to lead Charleston Southern past Shorter 23-15 on Saturday.
Trailing 7-0 early, Charleston Southern (2-0) scored 23 unanswered points in route to its second 2-0 start in program history. Both Dixon touchdowns were to Kevin Glears, who finished with 49 yards on three receptions. The other Buccaneers touchdown came on a Christian Reyes 23-yard run in the first quarter.
The Charleston Southern defense forced three turnovers and sacked Shorter's quarterback Eric Dodson in the end zone to give the Buccaneers a 23-7 lead at halftime.
Roderick Jones rushed for a 9-yard fourth-quarter touchdown to pull Shorter (0-1) within eight points with 10:56 to go. Dodson threw for 92 yards on 5 of 16 passing and also had 70 yards on the ground. Bradley Moon led the Hawks with 120 yards, on 16 carries.
