CFB AM: 7-year-old Rebs fan sends adorable letter to injured Treadwell

Tanner Harris is a huge Ole Miss football fan. When he goes to games, his dad Josh says, he wants to get there early to watch the players warm up and doesn’t ever want to leave his seat.
And forget about getting out early and beating the traffic.
Tanner’s favorite player is receiver Laquon Treadwell, so you can imagine how tough Saturday night was for the 7-year-old. He was watching on TV at home when Treadwell appeared to score the potential game-winning touchdown against Auburn, only for it to be ruled a fumble before he entered the end zone. To make it worse, Treadwell suffered a broken leg and dislocated ankle on the play.
“No, Daddy, no,” Tanner said when he realized the Rebels wouldn’t be awarded a touchdown and his favorite player wasn’t getting up.
Tanner was shaken up on Sunday, but in the aftermath of the injury, he found the time and strength to do something adorable. He wrote a heartfelt get-well letter to Treadwell. From The Clarion-Ledger’s story:
Dear Laquon,
You are my favorite Ole Miss football player. I enjoy watching you every week. For Christmas I am asking Santa to bring me a #1 jersey. I'm so sorry you hurt your leg and ankle. I hope you get better soon.
Your #1 fan
Tanner Harris
Thatta boy, Tanner. I’m sure Santa will deliver on your wish after such a nice gesture.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
1. Speaking of Treadwell, Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze gave an update on his status Monday: He’s expected to need four months to recover from a broken left fibula and dislocated ankle, for which he had surgery Saturday night to repair after getting injured against Auburn. Freeze is hopeful four months is actually the timetable and Treadwell is ready for spring ball. Only a sophomore, Treadwell is one of the most gifted wide receivers in the country and will likely be a first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft if he has a successful and healthy junior season. Here’s to a fast and full recovery for Laquon, who’s a joy to watch for all fans.
Washington State coach Mike Leach also confirmed on Monday that senior quarterback Connor Halliday, the nation’s leading passer, is done as a Cougar after a broken ankle against USC will end his season and college career. It’s a tough blow for the Cougs and Halliday, who sent out this Tweet in reply to someone that reflects the despair he’s feeling in coming to grips with the circumstances and his uncertain future.
@PappaMeighen 22 years of hard work I was 3 god damn games away from my dream 3 freakin games away from being drafted and living my dream
— Connor Halliday (@c_halliday12) November 2, 2014
Best of luck, Connor, and keep working. Your NFL dream isn’t over.
2. The Big Ten handed down discipline to Maryland for the Terps’ role in a pregame scuffle at Penn State last weekend. The program was fined $10,000 for coach Randy Edsall “failing to control his team,” but that’s not the most costly penalty. The league also suspended leading receiver Stefon Diggs for the Michigan State game on Nov. 15 after Diggs made contact with an official during the skirmish.
3. Another reason this is such a great time of year: MAC football starts filling up our Tuesday and Wednesday nights, helping get us to Saturday a little faster. Tonight we have two games – Bowling Green at Akron and Toledo at Kent State (both at 8 p.m. ET). Akron is one game back of BG in the East division. Plus we have the second release of the College Football Playoff rankings, in which we get to see how the committee reacts to a week of results for the first time. Fun night to be a fan.
THREE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
1. Stewart Mandel’s Forward Pass column this week ranks five huge Week 11 games that will shape the playoff race. Oregon at Utah doesn’t even make the top five in Week 11 – that’s how loaded this week is. I’m looking forward to TCU-Kansas State and Alabama-LSU in particular.
2. Secret video has emerged from Gus Malzahn’s high school coaching days of him wearing jean shorts and dancing to MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This.” No, none of that sentence is a misprint.
3. Ohio State picked up its second coveted quarterback in the Class of 2015 in Torrance Gibson, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound dual-threat QB out of Florida. Gibson turned down Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and a host of others for the Buckeyes.
THREE THINGS YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW
1. Former Auburn “Kick Six” star Chris Davis’ signed helmet from the 2013 Iron Bowl sold for more than $47,000 in an auction (Davis plays for the San Diego Chargers now if you’re wondering how he’s signing his helmet for an auction). How crazy is 47 grand for a helmet? Here are five expensive things you can purchase for less money.
2. Les Miles wants you to go vote. So, yeah.
3. A five-star recruit appeared to commit to Florida State on Twitter but then retracted the commitment and said his friends hacked his account. He’ll be committing on National Signing Day. Man, I wish those FSU fans could catch a break sometime.
LASTLY
* November is here and that’s when the season really begins, writes Bill Connelly.
* Postgame celebration videos are always great, so here’s one of NC State and coach Dave Doeren jumps in near the middle and does The Sprinkler.
* GameDay was in Morgantown last week, and during a commercial break, West Virginia fans sang their own version of Sweet Caroline, in which those words are followed by, “Eat s--- Pitt.” It’s quite impressive and hilarious (warning: language). Enjoy.
Have a great Tuesday, all. Enjoy the #MACtion tonight.
