BYU carrying torch for non-BCS hopefuls
If the BCS is to one day come tumbling down, it is not likely to be with a single powerful blow, but years of diligently chipping away.
Boise State did its part three years ago, taking down Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl to cap a perfect regular season. And Utah took a hammer and chisel to the argument that teams outside the six BCS conferences don't belong in the national championship discussion by thumping Alabama in early January in the Sugar Bowl to finish last season as the only unbeaten team in the country.
Now, it appears, the tools have been handed to BYU.
