Butler holds off Morehead St 62-52 behind Schrader

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Sam Schrader ran for 162 yards and four touchdowns as Butler outscored Morehead State 62-52 on Saturday, a game that featured six touchdown plays longer than 50 yards.

Trailing 20-7 after one quarter, the Bulldogs (4-5, 2-4 Pioneer) outscored the Eagles (3-6, 2-4) 28-3 in the second quarter. Schrader scored on runs of 21, 55 and 4 yards and Malcolm Weaver went 69 yards on a keeper.

Schrader added a 68-yard scamper on the first snap of the third quarter.

Morehead State kept the pressure on by piling up 706 yards, 591 yards through the air. Austin Gahafer threw for 333 yards and three scores before getting hurt late in the first half. Jack Sherry, in his first extended action, threw for 258 and three scores. Justin Cornwall had four receptions for 108 yards and two scores, Tanner Napier and Jake Raymond both had 107 yards and a score.
