Bucs' charge tops Lancers;SPORTS

Mass. Maritime 21, Worcester State 13: The host Lancers (3-3, 1-2 NEFC Bogan) led, 13-7, in the fourth quarter, but freshman Mike Stanton passed for two touchdowns in the final 2:50 to lift the Buccaneers(3-3, 2-1).

Freshman Erich Perfetti of Shrewsbury kicked field goals of 27 and29 yards around junior Tony Tokarz's 10-yard TD pass to classmate Will Franklin as Worcester State scored 13 straight points.

The Lancers had a chance to extend their lead, driving to the Buccaneers' 18 with 3-1/2 minutes left, but Perfetti's 30-yard field-goalattempt was blocked by junior Walter Butler and returned by freshmanStefan Gustafson to the Worcester State 30. From there, Stanton threw to Matt White for a TD, putting Mass. Maritime ahead to stay.

Senior Tyler Russell of Princeton was in on a career-high 27 tackles, 10 solo. He has 103 tackles in six games.

Endicott 30, Nichols 10: Junior tailback Matthew Bryson had 25 carries for 134 yards, but his visiting Bison (0-6, 0-3 NEFC Boyd) lost in Beverly.

Brandon Richard caught a 4-yard TD pass from Justin Nelson to get Nichols within 9-7, two plays after Bryson's 19-yard carry gave the Bison a first-and-goal at the 4.

But the Gulls (5-1, 3-0) struck for two more touchdowns in the second quarter, on Phil Konopka's 38-yard pass to Taylor Allen and Mike Lane's 2-yard run, accounting for a 23-7 halftime lead.

Konopka finished 11 of 15 for 155 yards and three touchdowns. Endicott held Nelson to 6-of-7 passing for 23 yards.

Cody Jankins of West Brookfield kicked a 32-yard field goal in thethird quarter for Nichols, which hosts UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday.

Framingham State 42, Fitchburg State 28: Senior Darren Wilson posted his second straight 100-yard rushing game, but the host Falcons fell.

Wilson finished with 121 yards and two touchdowns for Fitchburg State, with scoring runs of 41 and 2 yards in the first quarter. The Rams (5-1, 3-0 NEFC) and Falcons (1-5, 1-2) exchanged touchdowns in thefirst quarter until Framingham State had a 21-14 lead, with Melikke Van Alstyne's 79-yard scoring run putting the Rams ahead for good.

Framingham scored the next three touchdowns, on Kurt Leone passes of 5, 16 and 54 yards to James McCarthy. Leone finished with five TD passes, four to McCarthy.

Junior Jeremy Kimber, who starred at Fitchburg High, completed 12 of 18 passes for 78 yards. In the fourth quarter, he threw 8 yards toKyle Callahan for a TD and ran 1 yard for another score.

Husson 53, Anna Maria 38: Former Holy Name star Santino Simone andDomenique Concepcion turned in impressive performances, but the hostAmCats (0-6, 0-3 NEFC) lost in a shootout in Paxton.

Simone passed for 262 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for 58 yards and two more scores. Concepcion set a school record with 11 catches, good for 154 yards and a TD.

Husson (1-5, 1-2) scored four of the game's first five touchdowns to take a 26-7 lead. Simone threw a 42-yard scoring strike to Concepcion to get Anna Maria within 26-14 at halftime.

Jamal Mitchell was 5 for 5 on extra points and kicked a 23-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

The AmCats, who have lost 15 straight, host Castleton State on Saturday.

Mount Ida 41, Becker 6: Sophomore Johrone Bunch was too much for the visiting Hawks (1-5, 1-2 NEFC), rushing for 216 yards and six touchdowns in Newton.

Bunch scored on runs of 2, 10 and 19 yards in the first half and 4, 3 and 39 yards after intermission for the Mustangs (3-2, 2-1).

Senior Paul Casimir provided the lone TD for Becker on a 10-yard run late in the second quarter, cutting Mount Ida's lead to 21-6. Casimir finished with 58 yards rushing.

The Hawks played three quarterbacks, who were held to 32 passing yards combined.

Merchant Marine 26, WPI 9: After leading, 9-0, after one quarter, the Engineers (3-3, 1-2) were torched by Derrick Ventre for three touchdown passes in a Liberty League loss at Kings Point, N.Y.

Cody Beckel kicked a 30-yard field goal with 5:56 left in the first to put WPI on the board, and Mitch McClune ran in from the 1 for a nine-point lead, with Beckel's PAT attempt blocked.

Ventre, who had only five completions, passed for TDs of 25 yards to Mike Mitchell and 15 yards to Chaise Dunn in the second quarter and 17 yards to Mitchell in the fourth.

Ernie Mello had 13 carries for 70 yards for the Engineers, and Aaron Champagne rushed seven times for 47 yards. Pat McAuley was held to11-of-28 passing for 74 yards and sacked three times.

WPI's Brendan Gove was in on 10 tackles (nine solo) and teammates Hal Reader and Tom Thackeray had eight tackles each.
