Brinkley, Smith score 11 TDs in Union (Ky.) win

Mike Brinkley passed for six touchdowns and Armond Smith ran for five scores to lead Union (Ky.) in a high-scoring 84-55 victory over Bethel (Tenn.) in NAIA action on Saturday.

The 139 points scored by both teams came two points away from tying an NAIA record for most combined points in a game. The record is 141 when Southwestern (Kan.) defeated Sterling (Kan.) 79-62 in 1994.

Brinkley completed 18 of 23 passes for 345 yards and two interceptions for the Bulldogs (3-3), who finished with 12 total touchdowns. His six passing scores of 14, 74, 7, 11, 26 and 57 yards is a school record.

Smith ran for 312 yards for Union on scoring runs of 2, 8, 59, 55 and 67 yards. He set a single-game school record in rushing yards and touchdowns on the ground.

Cordarious Mann had 262 yards rushing and five touchdowns in a losing effort for Bethel (2-4).
