Arkansas coach John L. Smith says wide receiver Kane Whitehurst has been released from his scholarship.

Whitehurst redshirted last season and was listed as a third-team wide receiver on the depth chart prior to spring practice. The 6-foot, 175-pound freshman is the second Razorbacks receiver to be released this month, following Quinta Funderburk's release on May 2.

Whitehurst was arrested last month for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

He's one of six Arkansas players who have been arrested this spring after Maudrecus Humphrey, Marquel Wade and Andrew Peterson were arrested Saturday and charged with burglarizing dorm rooms. Smith, who was hired April 23 to replace Bobby Petrino, suspended all three indefinitely. Wade and Humphrey are receivers.
