APR release brings good news, bad for Penn State

The Penn State football team's APR score is still last in the Big Ten, but it went up for the first time after five years going the other way.

The latter note comes from The Patriot News.

With a 956 multi-year average, Penn State is well above the threshold for punishment by the NCAA (930), but the Nittany Lions are still feeling the effects of the transfers that were allowed after the NCAA imposed heavy sanctions on the program in 2012 in connection to the Jerry Sandusky scandal. Players who transfer without finishing an academic term hurt the APR score.

The 956 score is also the national average for football and two points higher than PSU posted a year earlier.
