Amari Rodgers has all the tools to be a future All-American at Clemson.

The Clemson football commit from Knoxville Catholic(TN) was once committed to the USC Trojans, where his dad former Tennessee great, Tee Martin is the offensive coordinator. After his decommitment, USC was still an option and Tennessee seemed to be the obvious second choice. But his early childhood love for the Tigers was too strong and a visit to the Clemson campus sealed the deal.

Rodgers is an electric playmaker with exceptional athletic ability. He is listed at 5’9 and weighs 209 pounds. Even though he is small in stature and powerfully built, he jumps well(38 inch vertical) and has 4.49 speed.

Rodgers has been a versatile player throughout his career. As a sophomore, he rushed for 725 yards with six touchdowns and caught 25 passes for another 407 yards with nine touchdowns.

His junior year started with a move from running back to wide receiver. At his new position, he caught 42 passes for over 1200 yards with 16 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 46 times for 328 yards with two touchdowns and added 3 touchdowns on returns.

Those junior stats were good enough to get him the 4A Mr. Football Back award for 2015 and lead his team to a state championship. In the state championship game, Rodgers had a 43 yard TD catch and a 82 yard kickoff return.

Despite a shoulder injury that will require surgery in the future, he has 28 catches, 826 yards, and 13 touchdowns so far this season.

The senior also has 43 yards on four carries. Included in those stats is the 8 reception, 251 yard, and 4 TD performance from Friday night. Friday night’s 45-20 win over Belfry kept Knoxville Catholic undefeated(6-0) and it gave Rodgers a sweet victory on his birthday.

What will he bring to Clemson?

Clemson is getting a kid who has leadership qualities to go along with special athletic skills. He was instrumental in the commitments of quarterback Hunter Johnson of Brownsburg(IN) , running back Cordarrian Richardson of Trezevant(TN), receiver Tee Higgins of Oak Ridge(TN), and he is currently trying to convince other 2017 recruits to join the Tiger family.

Clemson is also getting a Christian McCaffrey clone. Rodgers is not just similar in body type to the Stanford Cardinal star who is 5’11 and 200 lbs, but he has similar abilities. He makes people miss, catches the ball well, and can score from anywhere on the field.

McCaffrey is a running back, returner, and receiver for Stanford and can change a game from either position. Rodgers does all those things now on the scholastic level and he will likely do them in a Clemson Tiger uniform too.

Amari Rodgers is a leader and a dynamic player who is “All IN” for a Clemson win over #3 Louisville. What about you, Clemson fans?
