Albany (NY) 44, Columbia 21

Drew Smith passed for a touchdown and ran for another in the third quarter as Albany (N.Y.) pulled away from Columbia in a 44-21 win on Saturday.
Leading 24-14 at halftime, the Great Danes (1-2) scored three touchdowns in less than two minutes to break open the game. Smith rushed for a 4-yard touchdown, and then passed to Ryan Kirchner for a 10-yard score. Dan Di Lella finished the scoring run with a 37-yard touchdown pass to Omar Osbourne. The scores were set up by an interception and two fumble recoveries.
Smith led the ground attack with 155 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Di Lella also was productive, completing 15 of 26 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns.
For Columbia (0-2), all-Ivy League quarterback Sean Brackett passed for 176 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted twice and fumbled the ball away after a sack.
