Jon Morgan scored on a 21-yard fumble return with 1:30 left and Albany (N.Y.) held on for a 28-19 win over Monmouth on Saturday.
With the Great Danes (6-5, 4-4 Northeast Conference) leading 21-13, Monmouth went for a pass play on third-and-10 from its own 28. Albany's Trevor Anderson sacked Kyle Frazier from behind and Morgan picked up the fumble for the score.
The Great Danes' defense stepped up again as Ross Bertrand intercepted Frazier at the Monmouth 37 in the final minute of play.
L.J. Caprio's 2-yard run brought the Hawks (4-8, 4-5) within 21-19 with 3:09 remaining after a missed two-point conversion attempt.
Drew Smith rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries for Albany, who finished their school-record fifth-straight season with a winning record.
Kyle Frazier was 20-for-40 with 2 interceptions and 219 yards for Monmouth.
