Isaiah Crowell ran for 161 yards and two touchdowns and keyed a fourth-quarter comeback in Alabama State's 40-39 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday night.

Alabama State (1-2, 1-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) turned to last week's SWAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week early and often. Even on runs that Pine Bluff anticipated, Crowell patiently found lanes to make consistent gains.

Malcolm Cyrus was an effective complement to Crowell in backfield, adding 89 yards and a touchdown.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-3, 0-1) led by 9 in the fourth quarter but could not overcome special teams miscues. The Golden Lions had two missed extra points, a missed field goal, and a botched punt snap deep in its own territory that put the Hornets in great position to score their go-ahead touchdown.

As pre-season favorites in the SWAC to win their respective divisions, both schools went into the game urgently seeking their first win.
