Haroon Khan, the younger brother of boxing star Amir Khan, is hoping to make his mark at the Commonwealth Games representing Pakistan after being overlooked for England selection.
Khan says ''it is a big opportunity for me to prove the critics wrong in England.''
The 19-year-old impressed in a 12-1 third-round stoppage win over Sunday Elias of Tanzania and said later that speaking to his elder brother had helped his confidence.
''I spoke to my brother on the way here and he told me to ignore the negative publicity and just concentrate on your opponent and bring the result back. And that's what I did,'' the 52-kilogram category competitor was quoted as saying by Britain's Press Association.
