LOS ANGELES (AP) Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter have agreed to fight March 12 in a welterweight bout for Thurman's WBA title.

Thurman and Porter announced the agreement Saturday after months of negotiations.

The much-anticipated showdown matches two prime candidates to become the 147-pound division's top new star. They'll meet at Mohegan Sun Casino Resort in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Their bout will be televised on CBS by Showtime's boxing production crew. Showtime Sports executive vice president Stephen Espinoza believes it will be the first prime-time boxing event on CBS since 1978, when Muhammad Ali lost to Leon Spinks.
