Ireland's three-time world champion Katie Taylor advanced to the semifinals by a walkover when Mihaela Lacatus withdrew from their 60-kilogram bout at the women's boxing world championships.

Also progressing were two-time boxing world champion Sofya Ochigava of Russia, who defeated Adriana dos Santos of Brazil 15-6, and England's Natasha Jonas, who beat Ingrid Egner of Norway 23-9.

Mary Kom, a five-time world champion from India, lost her 51-kilogram quarterfinal bout 13-11 to No. 2-ranked Nicola Adams of England, while China's Asian Games champion Ren Cancan beat American Marlen Esparza 16-8 to progress.

''I gave my best but still lost, what can I say? I don't know if I have a chance or not. I don't want to think about it,'' Mary Kom told Press Trust of India.

The world championships are being held in 10 divisions but the focus is on three: 51-kilogram flyweight, 60-kilogram lightweight and 75-kilogram middleweight. Those are the only three classes being contested when women's boxing makes its debut at the Olympics this summer.
