Australian champion Bianca Elmir reportedly received a doping ban 14 hours before she was due to leave for the women's world boxing championships in China this week, ending her chances of competing at the London Olympics.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported on Tuesday that Elmir tested positive for a banned diuretic at the Australian titles in February, when she won the 51-kilogram class.

She told the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Agency that she took a tablet to prevent swollen ankles on a long flight, unaware that it was prohibited, the Herald reported. The 30-year-old Elmir was forced to withdraw from the worlds and faces a ban of up to two years.

Boxing Australia declined to comment while ASADA assesses the case.
