TRAINING: Cody trains full time and has for a while, so every day is a mix of different MMA skill sessions split into multiple workouts, with conditioning and sparring-specific days mixed in.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I started wrestling at 12 years old for the Randall Youth Wrestling Club in Amarillo TX, and later for Amarillo High School. My brother used to beat on me 'good ol’ boy' Texas style, so I joined a local martial arts gym to learn how to whoop him. There I formed a relationship with several professional fighters and they brought me into the fold. I had my first MMA fight in a chain link fenced cage in the back of that gym, and won by 36-second KO.
What ranks and titles have you held? XFL Super Lightweight Champion, XFL Welterweight Champion, Top Alliance Combat Lightweight Champion
Do you have any heroes? My heroes are the various people that make up my martial arts influences and the competitors/coaches who have given of themselves to help guide and inspire me along my path.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It’s a dream come true and has been my goal since I was 18.
