North Korea just won the U-17 Women's World Cup

North Korea's women's U-17 team has been a powerhouse for nearly a decade and now they are U-17 World Cup champions for the second time. The North Koreans beat Japan in penalty kicks to win the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup on Friday, capping an undefeated tournament.

North Korea and Japan played to a scoreless draw for 90 minutes and 30 minutes of extra time couldn't separate the two so they went to penalty kicks. There, North Korea were perfect, scoring all five of their shots and getting a save to take home the crown.

This is North Korea's second U-17 Women's World Cup title, despite this being just the fifth time the tournament has been contested. North Korea won the first ever U-17 Women's World Cup in 2008, finished fourth in 2010 and were runners up in 2012 before failing to make the knockout stages two years ago. Now they are back on top.
