Watch this Irish league player score a dazzler from inside his own half

The League of Ireland's Premier Division might not be a treasure trove of jaw-dropping video, but every so often a gem does emerge. That happened on Friday, as St. Patrick Athletic's Conan Byrne took it upon himself to do the unthinkable: line up a shot from inside his own half and score.

With the ball pinging around the midfield at Bohemian FC's Dalymount Park, Byrne saw his opportunity and pounced. The 31-year-old cocked back his right foot and let rip a mighty boot just before the stroke of halftime.

Bohemian goalkeeper Shane Supple had sent a goal kick into the St. Pats' half, but Byrne slapped a "return to sender" label on it with a quickness. Byrne didn't quit after that long-range stripe, either. He added another on the other side of halftime to pick up a brace, and St. Pats finished the match with an impressive 4-0 scoreline.

The only thing that could have made it better for Byrne would be picking up the hat trick. Something tells me he's fine settling for a breathtaking goal and a full complement of points, though.
