Genoa fires coach Gian Piero Gasperini

Genoa has fired coach Gian Piero Gasperini and appears set to

hire former Lazio manager Davide Ballardini.

Gasperini told the ANSA news agency of the club’s decision

Monday, a day after a 1-0 loss to Palermo in Serie A, the fourth

defeat in Genoa’s last five games.

Both ANSA and the Gazzetta dello Sport indicated Ballardini

would be introduced as the new coach later Monday.

Led by Luca Toni, Genoa has 11 points through 10 matches.

Gasperini had coached Genoa since 2006-07, bringing the club up

from Serie B after his first season.
