NFL is considering contingency plans for Hurricane Matthew
While many on the East Coast brace for Hurricane Matthew, the NFL is also staying on high alert. The league released a statement regarding the storm and what effect it could have on the Titans-Dolphins game Sunday and Bucs-Panthers game Monday.
"We are in close contact with local and state authorities about the hurricane," the NFL said. "As always, our overriding concern is for public safety and not doing anything that will divert important resources away from communities that may be in distress.
"Consistent with that, we are conducting contingency planning for the Tennessee at Miami game as well as the Tampa Bay at Carolina game."
Much of the east coast of Florida is under a hurricane warning, and residents are being asked to evacuate. According to tracking models, the path of the hurricane will head up the coast of Florida and toward Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.
