Saints linebacker Junior Galette has pectoral injury

In the same week the New Orleans Saints locked up one of their pass rushers with a long-term contract extension, they might have lost the services of another one for a while.

Linebacker Junior Galette suffered a pectoral injury recently and is currently evaluating his options on whether to undergo surgery, sources have told FOX Sports.

It's unclear how Galette, who was absent from the team's optional OTA workout on Thursday, suffered the injury and whether there's a legitimate chance he could play through it. Players who undergo surgery for pectoral injuries are usually sidelined for an average of five to six months.

Galette's agent, Alvin Keels, did not respond to an inquiry about the extent of his client's injury and whether he will seek another opinion.

Galette, 27, had 10 sacks last season after recording 12 in 2013. He signed a four-year, $41.5 million contract extension before last season.

Galette was arrested in January on a domestic violence charge, though the charge was later dropped.

The Saints on Monday signed defensive end Cam Jordan to a five-year, $55 million extension. It's clear from the money they've doled out to Jordan and Galette they imagined they'd continue to create pressure for opposing quarterbacks this season and beyond, though it might be up to Jordan only this year -- at least for a good portion of 2015 -- if Galette undergoes surgery.
