New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton addresses Drew Brees trade rumors
In an interview with Chris Myers, Saints coach Sean Payton dispelled the notion that the team is shopping quarterback Drew Brees.
Since the Saints traded star tight end Jimmy Graham earlier this month, there have been rumors that New Orleans may be on the precipice of a full-scale rebuild. Payton dispelled the rumor that it might be time to move on from a 36-year-old quarterback who showed signs of decline last season.
"Yeah, it's not that time. ... We're not interested in moving on from Drew Brees," Payton said. "He's going to be a part of our next championship."
Payton admitted that teams sometimes need to make tough decisions, but joked that he might be gone first.
Payton and Brees joined the Saints in 2006 and have a 79-43 record since, with a 6-4 mark in the playoffs and one Super Bowl title in 2009.
