Tom Brady responds to Reggie Wayne saying he was 'caught cheating'

Tom Brady will one day go down as arguably the best quarterback to ever step foot on an NFL field. Some would even say he’s reached that point already, while others discount his success due to the couple of scandals surrounding him.

First it was Spygate, and now Deflategate has taken its toll. Brady was suspended for the first four games of the season as a result, though he’s still considered a favorite to win the league's MVP award. Former Indianapolis Colts receiver Reggie Wayne isn’t voting on that honor, but he probably wouldn’t choose Brady if he were.

Wayne called Brady a cheater last week, saying he shouldn’t win MVP because of it.

“I don’t know what Reggie said or anything, but I liked being with Reggie,” Brady said on WEEI's Kirk and Callahan Show. “I actually had a lot of great conversations with him. Played against him for a long time; he’s a Hall of Famer. I always wish Reggie the best. He was a great player.”

Wayne played his entire career with the Colts, one of New England’s rival toughest rivals. He had a brief stint with the Patriots prior to last season but failed to make the regular-season roster. Brady obviously spent time with Wayne on the field, and while his “cheating” comments were harsh, Brady won’t change his opinion of perennial Pro Bowler.

“Well, I still think he’s a great player, and it doesn’t change the experience I had with him when he was here,” he said.

Brady doesn’t often engage in the remarks made about him, particularly the negative ones. His reaction to Wayne’s comments are nothing new, and he explains why he doesn’t let criticism bring him down.

“You know, I think there’s been a lot of people who have said a lot of things over the years that I disagree with,” he said. “I try and get up every day and do the best that I can do. … You give everyone else your power when you start reacting to everything that they say.”
