Tony Dungy: Peyton Manning feared Patriots bugged locker room

Published Aug. 20, 2015 11:32 a.m. ET

In 2007, the New England Patriots were caught videotaping defensive signals from opposing coaches, and thus Spygate was born. They were disciplined for their actions, and the world has moved on ... sort of.

Former Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy, however, has come forth with new information on what Peyton Manning thought of the Patriots.

Dungy said on the Dan Patrick Show that Manning feared the Patriots bugged the visitors' locker room during his time with the Colts. In turn, it led Manning to have game plan discussions in an adjacent hallway so that the Patriots couldn't listen in on his conversations.

"We didn’t have a lot of strategy discussions inside the locker room there," Dungy said, via ProFootballTalk. "Peyton takes everything to the nth degree."

Whether or not the Patriots actually bugged the locker room, Dungy doesn't know for sure. In fact, Manning didn't even know if it was true, but he acted as if it was.

With the amount of game preparation Manning puts in each week, it's no surprise that he would take an extra step to ensure his game plan was safe.
