The New York Jets have signed defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Friday. CBS Sports is reporting that the deal is worth in excess of $17 million per season over five years, and includes $37 million in guaranteed salary.

Last season, Wilkerson, 26, led the Jets in sacks with 12 and made the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career. He has 36.5 career sacks since being selected by New York in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, and has appeared in all 16 of his team's regular season games in four of his five professional seasons.

"I give my all every Sunday on the field and play with so much love and passion for the game," Wilkerson posted to his Twitter page. "I'm thankful for everything that comes my way and proud to say I'm back on the green and white for a few more years."
