Mike McCarthy could be grooming someone else's franchise QB in Hundley

The Green Bay Packers didn't need a quarterback in this year's draft, but getting UCLA product Brett Hundley in the fifth-round was just too good to pass up. Now, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, known for his ability to groom quarterbacks, has a tricky situation on his hands, Rob Reischel of the Journal Sentinel writes.

"I always felt that you look for an individual, particularly once you get in a certain part of the draft, and if he has something that you see that you can develop—and there's definitely a ton there with Brett Hundley—that excites me," McCarthy told the Journal Sentinel. "We have a number of guys who work with the quarterbacks. We're excited to get them in that room."

With Rodgers still in his prime at 31 years old, there won't be room for Hundley to win a starting job in Green Bay for the foreseeable future. However, if he gets a spot opportunity to start and impresses, the Packers could get a nice return on investment in the form of a trade.

It wouldn't be the first time. Reischel notes that Mark Brunnell (1993), Matt Hasselbeck (1998) and Aaron Brooks (1999) were all Green Bay draft picks, and the Packers traded all three away.
