Manziel fined $12,000 for making obscene gesture

Johnny Manziel didn't get the starting job, but he did get fined.

The Browns rookie quarterback was docked $12,000 on Friday for making an obscene gesture toward the Washington Redskins bench Monday night, FOX Sports 1 NFL Insider Mike Garafolo and other media report.

Manziel, who was beat out for the starting QB spot by Brian Hoyer, was caught by cameras gesturing toward the Redskins bench during the Browns' 24-23 loss.

"It does not sit well," Browns head coach Mike Pettine said Monday night. "It's disappointing, because what we talk about is being poised and being focused. ... That's a big part of all football players, especially the quarterback."

"I get words exchanged throughout the entirety of the game, every game, week after week, and I should've been smarter," Manziel said after the game. "It was a `Monday Night Football' game and cameras were probably solid on me, and I just need to be smarter about that. ... It's there, and it's present every game, and I just need to let it slide off my back and go to the next play."

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
