John Kasich wants to make the day after the Super Bowl a national holiday
John Kasich's presidential campaign made a stop at "The Dan Patrick Show" Friday, and the Ohio governor proposed a new idea that will likely win the hearts of NFL fans: make the Monday after the Super Bowl a national holiday.
This is a great idea by the Republican presidential hopeful. As Kasich noted, workplace production tends to be very low that day. It would be useful to have the post-Super Bowl Monday off when the game goes late, too. How many people took that Monday off or showed up late back in 2013 when Super Bowl XLVII ended late because of a power outage in the second half? And imagine how crazy Super Bowl parties could get if people had Monday off to recover.
There are some numbers to back up Kasich's idea. According to a 2008 report from The Washington Times, businesses lose about $170 million on post-Super Bowl Monday in lost productivity. The outlet also reported that more than 1.5 million people call in sick on the day after the Super Bowl.
