Jags RB Gerhart 'confident' he'll be ready for season-opener

Published Sep. 4, 2015 11:21 a.m. ET

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Toby Gerhart, who sat out the last two preseason games with an oblique injury, said he'll be ready to play in the team's season opener Sept. 13.

Gerhart, who has yet to return practice,  expects to be available for the Week 1 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. The 28-year-old suffered the injury in the Aug. 22 game against the New York Giants.

“(I'm) feeling good,” Gerhart said on Tuesday, per the Florida Times-Union. “I’ve progressed well the last couple of days (working) on the field. We’ve got some time yet.

“I’m very confident (about Sept. 13). I should be good to go by then.”

The 28-year-old Gerhart ran for 28 yards on nine carries in the preseason. He's slated to see time as the team's third-down back this season.
