Calvin Johnson hints at retirement in statement

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson just completed his ninth NFL season -- could it have been his last?

Johnson said he is "evaluating options" for his future in an official statement released on Wednesday afternoon. The Detroit Lions followed that up with a statement of their own, professing appreciation for his prudent decision-making.

Johnson, 30, recorded 88 receptions for 1,214 yards and nine touchdown catches in 2015. Although he finished the season with a decent stat line, his dwindling impact was apparent at some points in the season. The 6-foot-5, 237-pound pass-catcher only had two 100-yard performances -- the fewest since his rookie year.

The former No. 2 overall draft pick ranks sixth among active players with 11,619 career receiving yards (27th all time). His 1,964 receiving yards in 2012 still stands as the most in single-season NFL history.
