Von Miller says he won't sit out over contract dispute, can't see leaving Denver
The Denver Broncos' mandatory minicamp has begun, but the Super Bowl MVP is still a no-show. Pro Bowl linebacker Von Miller and the defending Super Bowl champs still haven't come to terms on a long-term deal, leaving some to wonder if Miller could sit out the 2016 season.
When asked if a holdout was a possibility during an interview with Chelsea Handler, Miller flatly said, "No."
Miller is still holding out hope that the two sides can come to an agreement before the July 15 deadline.
"We still have a month," he said. "I just can't see myself with any other team. My boys -- T.J. Ward, Aqib Talib, Kayvon Webster, DeMarcus Ware. All those guys, I built very, very close relationships with those guys, and I would like to continue to build that for the rest of my career."
The Broncos offered Miller the franchise tag that would pay him about $14.1 million in 2016. But Miller is seeking a long-term deal that other stars on defense have received recently. The Philadelphia Eagles gave Fletcher Cox a 6-year extension reportedly worth $103 million, with $63 million guaranteed.
"The franchise tag, it's a one-year deal," Miller said. "I would like a little bit more stability. I want to be a Bronco forever. I just want the feeling to be the same from the Broncos."
