Bengals promote Zampese to OC, hire Haslett for linebackers

The Cincinnati Bengals have promoted from within to fill the offensive coordinator role vacated by Hue Jackson.

Ken Zampese, the team's quarterbacks coach since Marvin Lewis took over in 2003, was promoted to oversee the offense, giving the unit continuity after a 12-4 season. Zampese, 48, is the son of longtime NFL assistant coach Ernie Zampese. Continuity and the continue progress of Andy Dalton was a major factor in the decision, Lewis said via Pro Football Talk.

"Ken has been in the offensive room over the years with our past coordinators, and he understands my vision about our future. It’s time for him to really put his hands on it now and advance the development. He has been Andy Dalton’s position coach, and Andy has just kept on getting better, so we’ve obviously got some good continuity working there."

The Bengals also announced that Jim Haslett would join Lewis' staff as linebackers coach, replacing Matt Burke, who followed departed defensive backs coach Vance Joseph to Miami. Haslett is a former head coach with the Saints and also was most recently the defensive coordinator for the Redskins for five seasons.
