Rex Ryan says WR Sammy Watkins' calf injury is a 'big concern'

Two of the Buffalo Bills' biggest playmakers were hindered by injuries in the team's win on Sunday. LeSean McCoy carried the ball just 11 times against the Miami Dolphins, while Sammy Watkins recorded one catch before exiting with a calf injury.

Watkins wouldn't return after leaving the game in the first quarter, and head coach Rex Ryan is concerned with the health of his wideout.

"Obviously with Sammy going out with the calf, that's a big concern," Ryan said via Matthew Fairburn of Syracuse.com. "Obviously that's a mismatch. If he's healthy, we can take advantage of it."

Watkins hasn't had a great deal of success this season after looking impressive in his rookie year. Thus far, Watkins has caught just seven passes for 99 yards in three games, and was shutout in the season opener. That doesn't seem to bother Ryan, given Watkins' ability when healthy.

"Well, it's a calf, and obviously at the end he couldn't press off it to the point where he could play," Ryan said. "... I loved coming here because I knew he was on the team. It's like, golly, let's get him healthy and get him to where he can be Sammy Watkins. That would be awesome."

Watkins' status for Sunday will be updated and determined throughout the week as the Bills hope to have him against the New York Giants.
