Bucs CB Alterraun Verner got emotional following INT while playing for his late father

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Alterraun Verner played Sunday’s game in memory of his father after Robert Lee Verner passed away Friday while visiting his son in Tampa for Thanksgiving.

It didn’t take long for the Bucs DB to make a big play that led to an emotional moment. With the Seahawks driving late in the second quarter, Verner intercepted Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson at the 15-yard-line and returned the ball to the 32.

FOX cameras then caught Verner reflecting on the moment on the sideline following the play in the video above. Verner and the Bucs defense limited Wilson to just 151 passing yards in a 14-5 win.

On Friday, Verner issued a statement through the team that his 61-year-old dad had passed away:

“With a heavy heart, we sadly report the loss of our beloved father, husband, grandpa and friend, Robert Lee Verner. We are thankful for his love and support. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. He will forever be cherished and missed.”
