Broncos LB Brandon Marshall explains why Denver's defense isn't 'dirty'

Published Nov. 15, 2016 2:17 p.m. ET

After last Thursday night’s incredibly physical game against the Carolina Panthers, some have slapped the Denver Broncos with the tag of being dirty. On several occasions, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was hit in the helmet by Broncos defenders, one of which was clearly a missed call by the officials.

Linebacker Brandon Marshall was one of the players who got a hit on Newton, but he’s positive Denver doesn’t take cheap shots or play dirty on the field.

Marshall wasn’t flagged for his shot on Newton in the third quarter, but that doesn’t mean he’s out of the woods yet. He’s expected to be fined for it, and he wouldn’t be surprised to find a letter from the league in his mailbox.

There will be plenty of people who disagree with Marshall’s claims that the Broncos are clean players and don’t take cheap shots. After all, they weren’t flagged often for the hits, which shows that the officials didn’t view them as blatantly obvious penalties.

The Broncos are an aggressive team, and it showed on Thursday night. Perhaps they could just dial back on launching at quarterbacks’ heads.
