Atlanta Falcons unveil giant, ridiculous concept statues for new stadium

Published Nov. 15, 2016 2:21 p.m. ET

The Atlanta Falcons are spending all the money for their new "entertainment venue," Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Latest estimates put the total costs for the complex at $1.5 billion, which will cover, among other things, a one-of-a-kind retractible roof and various other adornments of varying utility.

Some of the adornments, as was revealed this week, are gigantic, shiny statues. Yep — if you wanted a big, honking T-1000 falcon statue at the Dirty Birds' new digs, the Falcons have it in the works:

Still in the concept stage, the bird will stand 41.5 feet high, according to For The Win's Charlotte Wilder — making it the largest "bird statue" in the world, says Hungarian artist Gabor Miklos Szoke, who's been at the forefront of the stadium's design.

So yeah, it's a falcon statue the height of an apartment complex. And it's not the only hulking piece of art in store for the new grounds. Another statue commissioned for the stadium is a giant, many-sided ball-thingy. It's like if the Bean in Chicago were a dog toy.

You know what doesn't age? Art inspired by things Joe Pesci stepped on in '90s American blockbusters.

Dan is on Twitter. He can't wait for the swinging paint can exhibit.
