New York Giants superstar Odell Beckham Jr. was missing on the first day of organized team activities, according to NJ.com. According to Shannon Sharpe, Beckham could be protesting his current rookie contract, which has him scheduled to earn a base salary of just $1.8 million this season.
Sharpe and Skip Bayless reacted to Beckham's no-show on Tuesday's episode of "Undisputed", and Bayless said this is more proof that Beckham is a classic "diva receiver."
Beckham Jr. vowed on Twitter to work harder than ever this year
The Giants have to be taking this seriously
“[This is a] big deal that could be a very big deal for the New York football Giants, and also could be a big deal for my Dallas Cowboys.
"Anything like this that’s going on with that guy, Odell Beckham Jr., cannot be a little deal for the New York Giants.
"Joy just read you that series of recent tweets, ‘I’m going to work harder than ever!’ Really? You weren’t working that hard before?"

Beckham has often been missing this offseason
"‘More motivated than ever!’ Really, you weren’t really that motivated last year or the year before?I don’t know.
"He says, ‘Words are only words, it’s time for action.’This is something you have ‘never seen,’ he says to Giants fans.
"And now they have not seen him at Eli’s offseason workouts down at Duke, he disappeared on that one, and then he didn’t come to voluntary OTAs, and now he’s missed the first day of what are supposed to be mandatory OTAs.”

Beckham may not be happy with his contract
“Obviously something is going on with Odell. He’s pouting about something or protesting something. Could it be his contract? Could it be a $1.8 million base in his rookie deal that’s still enforced for the next two years? It could be that.
"Or could it be that Odell is still offended by the notion that he needed help at receiver? They needed some other options to take some of the pressure off Odell. Could it be that they went out and signed a Brandon Marshall and then they drafted Evan Engram, who is a wide receiver of a tight end who can absolutely fly? All of a sudden, Eli’s got two new toys, and I’m thinking is it possible that Odell won’t catch as many balls next year because they’re going to be distributed a little more evenly?”

Beckham's position as the Giants' No. 1 is still safe for now
“No, Skip, I still think he’ll lead them in receiving, but now you can’t double him. You can’t roll coverage, because Brandon Marshall still can play. Evan Engram will cause you nightmares getting down the middle of the field. And you still have Sterling Shepard, who operates brilliantly in the slot.”

Beckham is more fixated on himself than his football team
“So now, once again, it seems that Odell is turning back into what we weren’t sure whether he was or wasn’t, which is a diva receiver. Far more fixated on himself than his football team.
"So he spent much of this offseason, he toured Europe with Drake, and then Drake played at the Billboards the other night in Las Vegas. I don’t know, maybe he had to go help Drake backstage, and maybe he was a little worn out from that weekend in Vegas and he just couldn’t make that first day of OTAs. I don’t know for sure, but something is going on.”

The Giants should have seen this coming
“I don’t think it’s a big deal now, because they’re not playing regular-season football games now. But this could be a huge problem for the Giants. You know why he’s not showing up, and you should have saw this coming, Giants.
"They hold these camps, and they bring all the receivers because a lot of times you get new receivers, you get new tight ends, you get new backs. You want them to have a complete understanding of the system so when you hit OTAs, you hit the ground running. When he didn’t show up - because, you know, he had oral surgery, but he was with Drake in Europe somewhere the week before - when he didn’t show up for Eli when they had Brandon Marshall and these new players, that should have told you. That foreshadowed things to come.”

Beckham wants more money
“Skip, this is about his money. As you said, $1.8 million. He just saw Antonio Brown got an extension that’s going to make him the highest-paid. He sees what Julio Jones is making, he sees what Dez Bryant is making. Demaryius Thomas… he sees that.
In the new CBA, Skip, after your third year, the team can offer you an extension. He’s saying, ‘Y’all need to show me the money.’”

Beckham's clearly outperformed his rookie deal
“Clearly he’s outperformed his contract. Although I don’t agree with everything he does or says, he’s outperformed his contract. Guess what we know, Skip? If he had underperformed hiscontract, what would they have done with Odell?
"Ask Devin Smith, the Jets receiver they took in the second round in 2015. The Jets released him after two years, after he had his second injury. ‘We’re not getting the production, you’re not worth the money that we could possibly have to pay you.'
"So Odell has outperformed his contract, and he’s saying, ‘Giants, you need to come see me.’”

This could become an ongoing distraction for Beckham and the Giants
“Now how can he handle this? Some guys can play football and let the agent handle the contract stuff, and they’re still focused about their business. I don’t know if Odell can handle that. I don’t know if he can handle two things at once. I don’t know if he can compartmentalize.
"Let me tell you what happened. They’ve made it very cost-prohibitive for you to miss training camp, because it’s about $30,000 a day. So if you think you’re making $1.8 million… miss a month of training camp and see what that costs you.”
