The eight drivers in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup are all geared up to win Sunday’s Goody’s Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway, but so are the other 32 drivers in the field. Here are five drivers not still in the title hunt who will contend for the run on Sunday.
In the spring Martinsville race, Larson finished a strong third and this is the type of rhythm race track where he excels. Look for him to be stout again on Sunday.
The rookie driver had the speed to make the Chase but not the luck to stay in it past the Round of 12. He’s been fast so far this weekend and would love to get his first race victory here. He’ll start fifth.
With a pair of second-place finishes at Martinsville, this is one of the ‘Dinger’s best tracks. And he qualified fourth here on Friday, so he will have a good starting spot.
Martin Truex, Jr.
After winning the pole on Friday, Truex said he and his entire No. 78 Furniture Row Racing team are racing with a chip on their shoulder this weekend after shockingly losing an engine at Talladega and getting knocked out of the Chase. They’ve had one of the best teams all year.
While it’s true Gordon hasn’t posted great results subbing for Dale Earnhardt Jr. this year, this Martinsville, where Gordon has nine victories, including one in this race last year. Don’t bet against him.
