Placed on 10-day IL Kazmir was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain Friday.
Impact Kazmir was removed from Thursday's start against the Dodgers due to a hamstring issue, and the injury is serious enough to warrant a trip to the injured list. The southpaw was far from a lock to make the Giants' postseason roster, but it's not yet clear when he'll be healthy enough to return.

Dealing with hamstring strain Kazmir exited Thursday's start against the Dodgers with a strained right hamstring and will undergo an MRI on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact It initially appeared as though an ankle injury caused Kazmir's removal during the first inning, but it ended up being a hamstring strain. The veteran left-hander was already a longshot to crack the Giants' postseason roster, and the injury certainly won't help though odds.

Exits with trainer Kazmir exited his start Thursday in the first inning with an apparent ankle injury, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Kazmir was covering first base and appeared to turn his ankle. While the injury seemingly isn't serious, he is almost certain to not pitch again in the regular season and his status could be in doubt for the postseason. After Thursday's brief outing, Kazmir has a 6.35 ERA with a 10:6 K:BB across 11.1 innings on the campaign.
OCTOBER 1, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Starting Thursday's series finale Kazmir will start Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact Kazmir hasn't pitched since allowing one unearned run across four innings Sept. 22, but he'll make another start for the Giants in Thursday's series finale. It will likely be the veteran left-hander's final outing of the regular season, and and he's fared pretty well so far in his first big-league action since 2016 with a 4.09 ERA in 11 innings.
SEPTEMBER 29, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Could make another start Manager Gabe Kapler said Thursday that Kazmir is a "strong consideration" to make another start, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Kazmir made his first major-league appearance since June 4 during Wednesday's game against the Padres, and he allowed an unearned run on four hits and three walks while striking out three in four innings. He didn't factor into the decision but has a chance to remain in the rotation for the final week of the regular season. However, Kapler said that the Giants likely won't make a decision on whether Kazmir makes another start until after Monday's off day.

Lasts four innings Wednesday Kazmir allowed one unearned run on four hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings Wednesday against the Padres. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Kazmir made just his third MLB start this season and first since early July after having his contract selected to face the Padres. He gave the Giants four quality innings but ran into some trouble in the fifth after loading the bases on a pair of walks and a base hit. A run would score on a catcher's interference ruling, ending Kazmir's day at 71 pitches. Camilo Doval came on in relief and did a fantastic job preventing any more damage from occurring with a strikeout and a double play. Johnny Cueto (elbow) is set to begin a rehab assignment Thursday, suggesting his return to the rotation is near. With Cueto set to be activated soon, it could end up being a short stint in the majors for Kazmir. The 37-year-old owns a 4.09 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB over 11 innings this season.
SEPTEMBER 23, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Contract selected ahead of start Kazmir had his contract selected by San Francisco and will start Wednesday at San Diego, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact Kazmir will make his first start in the major since early July after spending the past three-plus months at Triple-A Sacramento. The veteran left-hander pitched well in his last two starts in the minors with a 3.75 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 11:0 K:BB over 12 innings, and he'll attempt to carry that success into the big leagues.
SEPTEMBER 22, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Set to start Wednesday Kazmir will have his contract selected by the Giants to start Wednesday against the Padres, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact Kazmir made three appearances for the Giants during the first half of the season and will rejoin the big-league club for at least one start down the stretch. The 37-year-old allowed five runs across seven frames in those appearances. He spent most of the season at Triple-A Sacramento and posted a 4.61 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 48:18 K:BB over 52.2 innings.

Impact Previous reports indicated that Kazmir could be called upon to handle multiple innings in a bullpen game Sunday, but the Giants elected to start Logan Webb instead. Kazmir is a candidate to start during the upcoming series against the Padres, which runs from Monday through Thursday.

Likely to join club in Chicago The Giants are expected to call up Kazmir to serve as a starter or primary pitcher Sunday against the Cubs in Chicago, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Impact San Francisco is tentatively planning on having Kevin Gausman take the hill on his normal four days' rest Saturday, so Kazmir would be lined up to pitch in the series finale with the Cubs. Since making three appearances (two starts) for the Giants earlier this season in what marked his first big-league action since 2016, Kazmir has split time between the United States Olympic team in Tokyo and Triple-A Sacramento. Over his last five outings at Triple-A, Kazmir has compiled a 5.64 ERA and 1.25 WHIP to go with a 19:8 K:BB in 22.1 innings.

Remains in organization Kazmir cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Kazmir's return to the big leagues after a four-year absence is a nice story, but it's not surprising that no team wanted to claim the 37-year-old off waivers given his age and lack of recent experience at the highest level. He could get another opportunity for the Giants at some point this season but is unlikely to be of much interest for fantasy players.

Designated for assignment Kazmir was designated for assignment by the Giants on Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Kazmir recently spent time on the restricted list, but he returned Friday and started against the Cubs. He allowed two runs on three hits while striking out three in two innings Friday but didn't factor into the decision. The 37-year-old will now be cast off the 40-man roster after he made three appearances (two starts) with the big-league club.
JUNE 5, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
No-decision in return Kazmir didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Cubs after giving up two runs on three hits while fanning three across two innings.
Impact Kazmir made his second start of the season and while he allowed a two-run home run to Kris Bryant in the first, he looked composed the rest of the way and concluded his night after two frames. The veteran southpaw owns a 6.43 ERA but has only pitched seven innings. With two of his three appearances being starts, he simply can't be trusted to pitch deep into games -- something that compromises his fantasy upside going forward.
