Saquon Barkley's emergence has been a big component of the recent success of the Penn State offense, and folks outside of Pennsylvania are taking notice.

Like, for instance, the evaluators at Pro Football Focus.

PFF ranks Barkley the No. 2 true freshman in the country so far this season using its special metrics and grading formula.

The running back trails only Florida State safety Derwin James on PFF's list of the top 10 first-year players nationally, and he is the only Big Ten player to make the cut.

Per PFF, Barkley has the best “elusive rating” in the country and is sixth in yards after contact per carry.
