Up-and-coming Puerto Rican prospect Luis Orlando Del Valle (15-0, 11 KOs) takes on fellow prospect Chris Martin (23-1-3, 6 KOs) in the opening bout of Friday’s edition of ShoBox, beginning at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT. The Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Okla., plays host to the double-header featuring Thomas Oosthuizen and Marcus Johnson in the featured bout of the night.
Del Valle is one of boxing’s hot young prospects, and one of several who hails from the island of Puerto Rico. Del Valle has spent most of his career in the featherweight division, including last June’s win over fellow prospect Dat Nguyen, but will make his second consecutive start as a junior featherweight. In Martin, Del Valle is up against another young prospect who has already taken the scalps of several other young prospects on his way up.
Martin will have a big edge in experience over Del Valle. Having already beaten prospects Eduardo Arcos, Chris Avalos, and Charles Huerta, Martin has been extensively tested at this level. In his last fight, Martin battled to a disputed majority draw with Teon Kennedy in the opening Friday Night Fights of 2012.
