Georges St-Pierre says he would be losing money to fight in the UFC on his old contract

Georges St-Pierre has made it clear that he wants to return to the UFC, but not without reaching an agreement on a new contract.

The former welterweight champion last fought in 2013 and a lot has changed since then. Most notably, the UFC signed an exclusive clothing contract with Reebok, which means fighters are no longer allowed to wear outside endorsements into the Octagon.

That would greatly affect St-Pierre's ability to make money considering he has a huge sponsorship deal with Under Armour, not to mention several other companies who have bank rolled him for past fights in the UFC.

So St-Pierre is seeking to sign a new contract with the promotion — one that will compensate him for the lost wages he will no longer make without those additional endorsement deals.

"If you see it from my perspective, I'm making a lot of money now even though I'm not fighting," St-Pierre explained when speaking to "UFC Tonight" on Wednesday. "My contract is old.

St-Pierre contends that his agent has reached out to the UFC to try and strike a deal but as of yet, the two parties haven't come together on a contract.

The Canadian promises that his demands aren't unreasonable, but he's not going to fight anybody without the terms of his deal being changed based on a contract that's at least three years old at this point.

"I want to get back, I want to come back. They know the term that I want and trust me, I'm very reasonable," St-Pierre said. "It's up to them. My agent tried to reach them, but they are hard to reach. I guess they're going to come back soon. We will see."

A return to the Octagon would be a huge financial gain for the UFC as well considering St-Pierre was the top draw in the sport before he took a prolonged sabbatical following his last fight against Johny Hendricks.

St-Pierre promises that this return to action isn't just for one fight, but instead a full restart to his UFC career with goals to solidify the legacy he's already started while becoming the most successful welterweight champion in the history of the sport.

"I want to be back for another run. I don't want to get back for one fight. I'll take it one fight at a time, but I want to go for a run," St-Pierre said.

At the top of his game, St-Pierre was not only a winning fighter but he was largely considered one of the top pound-for-pound competitors on the entire roster.

St-Pierre promises that if he fights again, he will be even better than before and that's a big part of the reason why he's so anxious to get this new contract done so he can book his next fight and return to action sooner rather than later.

"I would not have come back just to come back. I wanted to come back if I'm better than I was because the sport has improved as well. That's why it's very hard as a champion to stay champion because the sport will catch up to you. You need to reinvent yourself," St-Pierre stated. "People say 'oh you don't fix what is not broken' but this is not true. You have to fix it, make it better, make it stronger, build a better foundation.

"I just have a lot more fun, I'm more hungry and that makes all the difference in the world."
