Derrick Lewis vs. Travis Browne targeted for UFC 208

Derrick Lewis vs. Travis Browne is in the works for UFC 208 in Brooklyn.

A heavyweight clash between striking specialist Travis Browne and the heavy-handed Derrick Lewis is currently in the work for UFC 208 in February.

ESPN was the first to report the news.

Lewis (17-4), the former Legacy FC champion, is currently riding an impressive five-fight win streak. In his most recent outing, ‘The Black Beast’ walked away with a come from behind fourth round TKO over Shamil Abdurakhimov in the main event of UFC Fight Night 102 last Friday. Prior to this win, Lewis earned a controversial split decision over Roy Nelson.

This snapped his three-fight knockout streak, which included back-to-back first round stoppages over Damian Grabowski and former title contender Gabriel Gonzaga

Browne (18-5-1) will be looking to snap his two-fight losing streak. In his most recent contest, Browne suffered a lopsided decision loss former UFC champion Fabricio Werdum at UFC 204 in September. This marked his second loss to Werdum after being dismantled in their initial bout in 2014.

Prior to his setback against Werdum, fans saw the man known as ‘Hapa’ on the receiving end of a violent first round TKO at the hands of another former champion, Cain Velasquez, at UFC 200. He will enter his bout with Lewis with 16 career stoppage wins, including 14 by way of (T)KO.

UFC 208 is currently slated to go down on Feb. 11 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. A men’s featherweight title unification bout between champion Jose Aldo and interim Max Holloway has been linked to the main event but has yet to be made official.
