Australian bad boy Nick Kyrgios had a minor meltdown in his Wimbledon opener on Tuesday, but it paled in comparison to his tantrum on the same court last year.
In fact, the break in his otherwise good behavior served as a turning point. After he lost his cool during the third-set tiebreak against Radek Stepanek, he got focused and rolled through the fourth set to win the match and advance to the second round.
Kyrgios was reprimanded for an audible obscenity directed at his box during the changeover after losing the third set, then took issue with the chair umpire who called him on it.
But enough about that. Check out this between-the-legs lob shot that he won a point with in the third set:
He exited Wimbledon in the fourth round last year after receiving a code violation for swearing and unsportsmanlike conduct.
Let’s hope we see more of the awesome shots — and less of the obnoxious stuff — during this year’s run.
