Harrison loses in Malaysian Open first round

Fifth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko of Russia beat Ryan Harrison of the U.S. 6-3, 6-2 Tuesday to reach the second round of the Malaysian Open.

Davydenko saved nine of 12 break points in the match.

Eighth-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan also advanced, defeating Teymuraz Gabashvili of Russia 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Philipp Petzschner of Germany downed Mischa Zverev 7-5, 6-3.

Rik de Voest of South Africa defeated Ryan Sweeting of the U.S. 4-6, 6-3, 6-3; Somdev Devvarman of India eliminated Russian qualifier Mikhail Ledovskikh 7-6 (5), 6-4; and Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan quit his match against Albert Ramos of Spain when trailing 4-6, 6-3, 4-2.
