Tuesday night turned out to be a huge night of matchups with 12 games on the schedule. There were two 5-1 victories on the schedule, the Nashville Predators topped the New Jersey Devils and the Montreal Canadiens topped the Anaheim Ducks. The New York Islanders grabbed two points against the Boston Bruins while the Columbus Blue Jackets grabbed another win against the LA Kings in a shootout match.
The St.Louis Blues also went into OT with the Dallas Stars and came out with a 3-2 win as the Minnesota Wild shut out the Colorado Avalanche 2-0. Pittsburgh smashed the New York Rangers 7-2, San Jose topped Calgary 4-1 and Tampa Bay took a 4-1 win against Detroit.
Lastly, the Florida Panthers took a 4-3 shootout victory against the Buffalo Sabres, the Ottawa Senators grabbed two points in a 4-3 win against the Chicago Blackhawks and the Vancouver Canucks topped the Winnipeg Jets 4-1.

Two Goalies Down in Tampa Bay vs. Detroit
Both Tampa Bay goalie Ben Bishop and Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard were injured and left the matchup the two teams faced off in last night. Bishop was injured following a saved shot and Howard was injured and escorted off the ice after a collision in his crease. [NHL.com]
NHL Daily Morning Rant
The condition of the ice in the NHL’s arenas are becoming a problem.
Between the continuous complaints of the ice over in Brooklyn in the Islanders’ Barclays Center and the postponing of the Red Wings-Carolina Hurricanes matchup due to soft ice on Monday, the problem is growing.
Players are beginning to suffer the consequences of soft ice with injuries, game cancellations and in-game distractions. The risks associated with poor ice conditions are too much for teams to gamble with and the NHL needs to pay more mind to a possible growing problem.
Huge arenas with demanding schedules are constantly assembling and breaking up the ice, sometimes every other day, to sustain the arena’s demanding schedule. Sure, this might be effective for business for the arena but for hockey it doesn’t add up.
Recently New York Ranger Rick Nash has mentioned the soft ice in Barclays Center after as a possible factor for his groin injury. Similarly, rumors of ice complaints at Madison Square Garden were circulating around the time of Ranger Mika Zibanejad’s bad fall that has kept him sidelined for quite some time already.
Sure, these are pretty specific mentions but regardless the problem remains. Poor ice conditions in team arenas that cannot sustain the rink or in areas that are more humid and need the extra time to maintain the ice is a growing problem and the NHL needs to pay attention. Players don’t need distractions, to alter their game in certain rinks or risk their own safety at the possibility of poor ice.
