Nike's 'Color Rush' uniforms have been a popular subject across the NFL for the past few seasons. As someone who admittedly obsesses a bit too much over both hockey and sports fashion, I often thought about what it would look like if the NHL were to incorporate a 'Color Rush' of alternate uniforms.
So, since I have too much time on my hands and this year's EA Sports 'NHL 17' video game comes with an in-depth uniform editor, I decided to create one myself for each team.
Ideally the original Mighty Ducks logo would go on the chest, but NHL 17 doesn't offer that as an option.
These would be a pretty great alternate option for the Coyotes' current primaries.
I really think that the Bruins are in need of a gold alternate jersey, but I dont think they'd be able to pull off a fully gold 'Color Rush' look.
Since I'm a big fan of the Sabres' black, red and silver look of the mid-'90s and early 2000s, I decided to create a hybrid of those jerseys and the ones they wear now.
These are basically just the throwbacks the Flames wear currently. You don't have to fix what isn't broken.
I'm not a fan of the Hurricanes' boring, traditional home reds, so I decided to work in more black and give them a more modern feel.
It's a shame that the Blackhawks have gone away from using their old black uniforms as an alternate.
The Avalanche are seriously underachieving with their current primaries. I'd like to see them rock with something like this full-time.
Columbus Blue Jackets
Columbus could really benefit from including more striping in their current look, so I jazzed up the sleeves a bit and tried to play the red and white off each other as best I could.
The Stars' current green, white and black scheme is pretty nice, but I'd like to see them incorporate the old North Stars gold a little bit more.
Detroit Red Wings
It's tough to mess with the Red Wings' classic unis, so this is a pretty basic look that I don't think people of Detroit would riot over.
This isn't too much of a diversion from what Edmonton wears normally, but only because that look is pretty great already.
I'm a big fan of the new Panthers uniforms that are in their inaugural season, but some navy alternates would be sweet too.
Los Angeles Kings
This look borrows the Kings' throwback purple and gold scheme and meshes it with the team's current alternate logo and Gretzky-era jerseys from the '80s.
The Wild's current scheme is pretty much all over the place, but I think this look harmonizes their red home jerseys and the green alternates they frequently wear.
The Habs' red home sweaters are a classic. So, instead of messing with those, here's a twist on them.
There's too much mustard yellow in the Predators' current look, so let's even it out with a whole lot of navy.
New Jersey Devils
A more sinister twist on the Devils' excellent regular home uniforms.
New York Islanders
Since there's no way I was going to create a completely orange Color Rush look for the Isles and I couldn't fully commit to bringing back the '90s Gordon's Fisherman look, here's a hybrid.
New York Rangers
Lady Liberty is back!
The Senators have a great color scheme but haven't managed to put together a really, really great jersey yet. I tried my best.
Black alternates are a no-brainer for Philly.
I expect we'll see gold alternates for the Penguins at some point soon -- they're already going that route for their Stadium Series jersey this year. With that being said, it will probably (hopefully) have less gold than this set.
St. Louis Blues
The Blues' current scheme is great, but I couldn't help but work a little red back into the mix for my friends from the '90s.
San Jose Sharks
The Sharks need to start incorporating more silver into their look. Their throwbacks are superior to the uniforms they wear now.
Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning completely failed at creating a respectable black alternate, so I decided to give it a shot myself.
Toronto Maple Leafs
I didn't want to mess with the Maple Leafs' great new uniforms too much, so I replaced the white with cream and just gave them some different striping.
It's been far too long without a Johnny Canuck jersey.
Instead of trying to replicate some of Washington's retro looks, the goal here was to envision a possible navy alternate version of their more modernized primaries.
The Jets really should craft a baby blue alternate soon. Since I love Winnipeg's throwbacks, I tried to put a baby blue twist on them.
